Recently, the name list of winners for the 2016 Xiamen Egret Friendship Award
has been made public, and Professor Claude-Michel Brauner is on the honor
roll.
Claude-Michel Brauner, Professor Emeritus of the University of
Bordeaux of France, has held a "dual professorship" at Xiamen University since
2009.He is currently a guest professor of Xiamen University, a core staff member
at the Key Laboratory of Mathematical Modeling and High-performance Scientific
Computing of Fujian Province (KLMMHSC), and an approved member of the 2013
high-end foreign experts Program of the National Bureau of Foreign Affairs. Each
year he would work in Xiamen for 5-6 months.

  During his
stays in Xiamen, Prof. Brauner had been committed to exploring new channels of
communication between Chinese and French scholars and seeking more opportunities
for academic cooperation between the School of Mathematical Sciences of Xiamen
University and French universities and research institutions. In 2014, together
with his colleagues at Xiamen University, he organized the 2014 Sino-French
Mathematical Seminar which was later approved as one of the festivities for the
50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and
France. He was also keen on building connections and long-term exchanges and
cooperation between the KLMMHSC of Fujian, which is based in the School of
Mathematical Sciences of XMU, and the universities in the southwest of France
(including the University of Bordeaux, Poitiers University, Université de la
Rochelle and so on). In addition, he also attached great importance to promoting
the projects by young French senior researchers and had closely followed the
updates.
Prof. Brauner is now an official representative of Societe de
Mathematiques Appliquees et Industrielles (SMAI) in China. He conducted a survey
into Sino-French cooperation on applied and computational mathematics and
published a report in the SMAI magazine, which would further facilitate the
academic exchanges between China and France.
In recent years, the School of
Mathematical Sciences of Xiamen University has been ramping up its efforts to
globalize its school-running mode. The 3 + 1 + 1 joint training project with the
School of Science at Loughborough University of Britain was launched in March
2017.The "Training Project for Innovative and Interdisciplinary Talents in
Scientific Computing" co-established with the University of Bordeaux of France
had already been approved as one of the "Programs of International Cooperation
on Innovative Talents Cultivation" in 2017 by the China Scholarship Council. And
the joint master´s degree program with the University of Bordeaux of France
kicked off in 2016.
